For Mary Anne Gibson, serving Germantown has always been about something simple: listen to your neighbors, show up, be responsive and do the work.

Mary Anne has called Germantown home for decades and has spent much of that time working to make the community she loves an even better place to live, raise a family and build a future.

Elected three times to the Germantown Board of Mayor and Aldermen, Mary Anne is now serving her tenth year as Vice Mayor, having been unanimously selected by her fellow members of the Board. Throughout her service, she has focused on the things that matter most to Germantown families: strong public safety, excellent public schools, dependable infrastructure, thriving parks and neighborhoods, and protecting the exceptional quality of life that makes Germantown special.

Her commitment to Germantown began long before she was elected Alderman.

​

A passionate advocate for public education, Mary Anne represented Germantown as the District 5 Commissioner on the Shelby County Board of Education during the pivotal transition involving Memphis City Schools and Shelby County Schools. Today, she continues to support a strong partnership between the City of Germantown and Germantown Municipal School District.

​

Mary Anne has also been a longtime champion of Germantown's parks and public spaces. She has served as Vice Chairman of the Germantown Parks & Recreation Commission, Chairman of the Farm Park Advisory Group, and a founding board member and Chairman of Bobby Lanier Farm Park, Inc. Today, she serves as Alderman liaison to the Parks & Recreation, Neighborhood Preservation, Economic Development and Public Art Commissions and as a member of the Board of Zoning Appeals.

Public safety has remained another important focus of her service. Mary Anne helped establish Germantown's Hyper-Reach emergency text alert system and co-leads the Suburban Coordinated Community Response Team, bringing together law enforcement, victim advocates, judicial partners and community organizations to improve the regional response to domestic violence.

​

Her involvement in the community extends well beyond City Hall. A Leadership Germantown and Leadership MAAR graduate, Mary Anne received the Jim Roberts Leadership Award and led Germantown's Project 100 initiative for the West Tennessee Veterans Home. Through her church, she has served in disaster relief, youth, confirmation and welcome ministries, and she co-founded Cooking with Joy to benefit Memphis Business Academy.

Professionally, Mary Anne is an Affiliate Broker with The Firm, specializing in residential real estate, and is an active member of the Memphis Area, Tennessee and National Associations of Realtors.

Germantown Is Home

Mary Anne and her husband, Steve, have been married for forty years and raised their three children, Morgan, Marshall and Madison, with deep roots in the community. Today, they are proud grandparents to Juniper and Greer.

​

Mary Anne and Steve are also well known for their love of chuckwagon cooking and Western heritage. Their historic 1915 Springfield wagon has taken them to competitions across the country, earning national and world championship honors.

​

More importantly to them, it has provided opportunities to teach students about history and agriculture and to use their love of cooking to support veterans, children's charities, public education and Germantown's parks.

​

For Mary Anne, Germantown isn't simply the city she represents. It's home.
